This version seems off to me. The orchestral backing is intrusive and sometimes fights Paul's voice, which isn't high enough in the mix. It's like he's trying to sing quietly because he doesn't want to disturb anyone in the next room. His delivery is also quite mannered, and he comes in late at 1:12. On the whole, it's a decent song, sounding like a late '70s Neil Diamond or Barry Manilow album track (though Nicholas is easily a better singer than Diamond). Too sleepy for a single, though, and lacks a proper chorus.

Theme tune written by David Mackay. He also wrote the music for Auf Wiedersehen Pet series 1 and 2. I own a Yamaha DX7 synth which belonged to him (might even be the one I can hear in this song).

Vernon Kay played this the other morning on BBCR2, it is a pretty song and nicely performed by Anita which I had almost forgotten. However, I couldn't help thinking of the parody 'Anyone Can Break A Vase' from Victoria Wood's legendary spoof soap 'Acorn Antiques', which was available and sung by Miss Babs!

Eastenders will be 40 next year I wonder if Anita will be no1 with this she had a great voice this was no4 in 1985 but on greatest hits chart it was no1 in 2019 35 years after the show started she sung in one of my weaker moments too I've got the single too plus this song and Anitas album she did with eastenders tune simon may is just as good as Tony hatch themes for TV he did crossroads and emmerdale too tunes you hear alot great 😊😊
